Pore Minimizers: 4 Ways to Minimize Enlarged Pores

Pores are small openings in the skin that release oils and sweat allowing sebum (your skin’s natural oil) to flow freely to the surface. The reason pores might appear larger is due to the accumulation of excess oils and dirt on your skin, acne, using comedogenic makeup products or excessive sebum production as in the case for those with oily skin so in a sense, large pores are a clear indication that it’s time for deep cleansing and is the skins natural way of literally trying to ‘push out’ the excess gunk. Everyone has pores; it is not possible to get rid of them as they clearly serve a purpose, but you can always minimize their appearance by following the tips outlined below.

Tip#1: Regularly cleanse your face

This is one of the most important beauty tip that we have talked about over and over again; the best type of cleansers are the ones that get rid of excess dirt and oil without completely stripping your skin of moisture. For large pores related to oily skin, it is advisable to go for gel-based cleansers.

Tip#2: Exfoliate

Seems pretty obvious right? Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells from the outer most layer of your skin, this acts as a process of deep cleansing. It is advisable to exfoliate at least twice a week especially if you wear makeup on a regular basis or once a week for those with sensitive skin. You can opt to exfoliate manually using an exfoliating scrub/brush or go for chemical exfoliation using exfoliates with either Alpha-hydroxyl acids (AHAs) or Beta-hydroxyl acids (BHAs)

Tip#3: Use a toner

A toner is non-negotiable for people with large pores as a result of oily skin. Toners are great for helping to deep clean and tighten the pores. Apple Cider Vinegar is a natural astringent and skin toner, meaning it will not only tighten your skin and minimize your pores, it also restores your skins PH balance and has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to treat acne.

Tip#4: Use a clay mask

Clay masks have been praised for ages due to all the skin benefits they provide, they are a great way to deep cleanse and can help remove oil, dirt and dead skin deep inside your pores. You can immediately notice a difference on the texture of your skin after applying a clay mask. Use a clay mask once or twice a week but not on the same days that you have exfoliated the skin as this can be too harsh and damaging to your skin.

PS: It is important to hydrate your skin by moisturizing it after all the cleaning, this is because if you only do the above steps and forget to moisturize, your skin will stay dehydrated which will trigger excess sebum production to compensate for the dryness and as we have seen, this is the main cause of not only large pores but acne breakouts and other blemished as well and as always, do not forget your sunscreen.
